Research

The Queen Garnet plum was developed in Australia by the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries through traditional, non-GMO cultivation. The result is a plum naturally rich in anthocyanins — the deep purple plant compounds that have made it the subject of ongoing scientific interest.

Over the past decade, leading Australian universities and research institutions have studied the plum's anthocyanin content, its phytochemistry, and the biological activity of anthocyanins in a range of contexts.

Independent research, transparently presented

PurQ has not funded any of the research listed below. These studies have been conducted independently by universities and research institutions in Australia and overseas, and published in peer-reviewed journals.

The work spans more than a decade. We have linked each study so you can read the full paper, the methods used, and the conclusions drawn — not our summary of them.

What's been studied?

The research below covers a range of topics — the plum's phytochemistry, how anthocyanins are metabolised in the body, and the effects of anthocyanin-rich foods in various populations and contexts. The work spans human clinical trials, animal studies, and analytical research on the fruit itself.
